A GROWTH MARKET: 2017 NUMBERS FROM THE BRAZILIAN AND THE GLOBAL PHONOGRAPHIC INDUSTRY


The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has published an annual report since 1997 detailing the performance of the phonographic industry globally. The year of 2017 saw a growth of 8.1% compared to the previous year. Streaming profits grew by more than 41.1%. The total revenues for the recorded music trade equalled U$17.3 billion. Who were the top performers? Ed Sheeran, Drake and Taylor Swift.

Brazil is in the top 10 markets, firmly at spot 9. The Brazilian market saw a growth of 17.9% in 2017 (in relation to 2016), according to PRO-MUSICA, the Brazilian association of phonographic producers. It generated total revenues of US$295,8 million.
